IT Policy and Procedures

  1. Students can use College ICT resources if authorized to do so by College staff. Also, students can bring their own device for use at school.

  2. College ICT resources and students’ own devices may only be used for educational purpose as instructed by College staff.

  3. Devices outside the College ICT resources (e.g. mobile phones, iPads, Androids, digital cameras, mp3 players, etc.) may not be used during school hours unless by permission of a teacher whilst under their direct supervision. During school hours, these devices should be switched off.

  4. Students require teacher permission to use the College ICT resources at school outside of class time. The use of student devices outside of class time also requires teacher permission. Prior permission should be sought if students are not under direct teacher supervision.

  5. The following offensive material or conduct is strictly not permitted and will be dealt with in accordance with the School Regulations and in some instances may result in the College involving the Police or other government agencies:

      • a. infringing a person’s copyright or other intellectual property rights

      • b. defaming a person or an organization

      • c. containing sexually explicit, indecent, obscene or pornographic material

      • d. discriminating against a person on the basis of, for example, sex, race, religion, disability or age

      • e. dealing with a person’s personal information in a way that breaches privacy laws

      • f. racial harassment or inciting racial hatred

      • g. introducing or passing on malicious software (“virus”)

      • h. disruption to the school’s networks

      • i. breaching school security

      • j. constituting a ‘cybercrime’

      • k. any other act or material otherwise contrary to school rules or policy

  6. In case of need, the School has the right to review the content on the mobile devices. Parents will give the right to the School to review the content on the students’ mobile devices even though the content inside might involve a third party other than the student. The School should not be held liable of breaching any Privacy ordinances in this instance.

Before School

Recess

Lunch Time

  1. Students are not encouraged to switch on their mobile devices (laptop & smart phones) between 7:45 and 15:30, unless under teacher supervision and/or in accordance with the policy.

  2. If mobile devices are switched on, students are only allowed to use it for learning-related tasks in places in accordance with the policy.

  3. Computer games and other materials not related to learning and teaching are not allowed.

  4. However, teachers should exercise professional judgment to judge whether students’ work is learning related.


  • Teachers can perform random checks on the use before school.

  • Students will be recorded if breaching the regulations.

  • Names will be passed to the Discipline Teachers.

In Class

  1. Students must power down the devices in class unless permitted by the teacher in class.

  2. College ICT resources and students’ own devices i.e. the notebook computer may only be used for educational purpose as instructed by College staff.

  3. Devices outside the College ICT resources (e.g. mobile phones, iPads, Androids, digital cameras, mp3 players, etc.) may not be used during school hours unless by permission of a teacher whilst under their direct supervision and in designated areas. During school hours, these devices should be powered down.

  4. Students are not allowed to record (audio or visual) any part of the lesson unless authorized by the class teacher.

  5. The following offensive material or conduct is strictly not permitted and will be dealt with in accordance with the School Regulations and in some instances may result in the College involving the Police or other government agencies:

a. infringing a person’s copyright or other intellectual property rights

b. defaming a person or an organization

c. containing sexually explicit, indecent, obscene or pornographic material

d. discriminating against a person on the basis of, for example, sex, race, religion, disability or age

e. dealing with a person’s personal information in a way that breaches privacy laws

  • Students are asked to switch off the devices in class.

  • Students breaching the regulation will be referred to the Discipline Teachers.

  • Students and parents must sign the Responsible ICT Use Agreement before being allowed to bring and use their own devices at school.

  • Any breach of the regulation and the Agreement might revoke their rights to bring mobile devices back to school.

After School & Holidays

  1. Students can switch on their mobile devices (laptop & smart phones) to do their own work.

  2. If mobile devices are switched on, students are only allowed to use it for learning-related tasks.

  3. Computer games and other materials not related to teaching and learning are not allowed.

  4. Teachers should exercise professional judgment to judge whether students’ work is learning-related.

  5. The use of student devices outside of class time is regulated by the school regulations and may not be used if instructed by any staff member, e.g. when a teacher finds that the student uses the device for computer games or any other inappropriate situations.


  • Teachers can perform random checks on the use before school.

  • Students will be recorded if breaching the regulations.

  • Names will be passed to the Discipline Teachers.
